Marion competed Wednesday at the Clare Invitational, running on a beautifully rolling, wooded course located on Mid Michigan College. We love this race as an early season meet because each heat is run coed and by grade level. They also run a 1.25 mi middle school race (great intro for new athletes). Speaking of new athletes, 6th grader Abigail Havercroft and 7th grader Weslee Schlitter ran the first race of their Marion Cross Country career with a 1.25 mile time of 13:51 and 9:17 respectively. Our 7th grade Veteran middle school runner Cole Euwema crossed the finish line at 10:07, almost a minute faster than last year and Ana Latoski ran an 11:11. This year we have four 9th graders who made the transition from a two mile run to the high school 5k. For their debut high school cross country race we have; Mason Howell who came in at 24:03, Isiah Peterson at 25:55, Bella Radtke at 30:04, and Aubri Uber at 31:19. Returning sophomore and co-team captain Jaden Kiger ran a 23:34, TWO minutes faster than last year! Finally, our returning junior and co-team captain Donna Mills-Foster topped last year's time by almost SIX minutes, finishing at 27:45!!
This was an excellent first showing from the Marion Cross Country Team and I am excited to watch these athletes improve over the course of the season.

After a series of summer fun runs, this year's cross country season officially started with his year's Varsity Cross Country Camp. This included a few days of local runs around town, some conditioning exercises that brought back fond memories, and lots of team building activities. The camp concluded with the team's annual camping trip to Sleep Bear Dunes where we really pushed our endurance as we ran the two miles from our campground, across the dunes, all the way to Lake Michigan...and then the two miles back! In addition, the team participated in a cultural restoration service project aimed at preserving some of the over 200 antique varieties of apples once grown on the farms on the National Lakeshore. We can't wait to see what else this year's cross country season has to offer. If any other middle or high school student is interested in joining the team this year, stop by Mr. Mayer's room!

A HUGE thank you to Timber Rose for their generous donation to Marion Elementary. We sure do appreciate the support!

Ms. Russell’s class got to experience first hand the transformation of a monarch caterpillar into a chrysalis. This transformation is less than 5 minutes from start to finish. Thankfully with the help of a watchful Blake Lee, whom caught the caterpillar first turning bright green, the rest of the class was able to enjoy the experience. Needless to say, Ms. Russell’s life cycle science unit is off to a great start!

Reminder: tomorrow is "late start Wednesday". School will start at 9:00 am at the elementary; school will start at 8:50 am at the high school.

Happy first day of school!
Doors open at the high school at 7:40; school starts at 7:50.

Seeds Marion Elementary students perused the outdoor exhibit of the Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University. They asked great questions while reading the information provided. It was great to see them learn about the Civil Rights movement here in our country.
