Marion hosted the 2025 WMD Championship Cross Country Meet on Wednesday, October 15. A big congratulations to the Grand Transverse Academy Girls and Mesick Boys Varsity teams for taking 1st place at the meet! In addition, a big shout out to all 1st and 2nd team All Conference Athletes this season to include Marion's own Junior Mason H who ran a 5k PR of 18:46 and 8th grader Brenden M who ran a 14:36 2mi!!
While we all run for our own reasons, every runner at this race had one of those reasons in common. Each race began with Pentwater's Coach Fatura saying these words:
"Today, as we line up for this race, we’re running for more than just time or place — we’re running for strength, courage, and hope. Every one of us is wearing a gray ribbon to honor our 8th grade WMD teammate and friend, Ben, who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. Ben’s fight reminds us what it truly means to be strong. A reminder that cross country — and life — aren’t just about how fast we go, but about never giving up, no matter how tough the course gets. Let’s all run this race with that same courage and determination because we are all on Team Ben."
We all ran for Ben and wish him the best as he continues his treatment. Post meet, Coach Fatura reflected, "I really do love how our small schools support one another in times of need." The cross country community amplifies that a hundred fold!
